Veteran Lott nike outlet knows how to win at Henderson
This season, for the fourth time in the last eight years, West Chester Henderson coach Bill Lott has been selected as the Daily Local News Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. Lott won the award for the first time this decade in 2003 and then repeated in 2006 and 2009.
Last year, the veteran coach guided the Warriors to a third place finish at the District 1 Class AAA Championships and a seventh place finish at the PIAA Class AAA Championships. Those accomplishments pale in comparison to Henderson's results this season.
The Warriors finished second to Pennsbury at the 2010 District 1 Class AAA Championships at Lehigh University. It was a bit of the old d ej ? vu one week later at Hersheypark's challenging cross country course. Henderson's girls ran extremely well but still finished runner up to powerful Pennsbury.
"I was very pleased with this season," said Lott, who finished his 12th campaign as the Warriors' girls cross country coach. "It has been our goal to get on the podium at states."
The top two teams in each race at the PIAA Championships get to move to the podium to accept team trophies one for the state title and one for a runner up finish.
"It takes more than just ability to get to that level," said Lott. "It takes nike qs focus and it takes a little luck. Our girls exercised a great amount of maturity especially since four of our top seven nike tanjun had never run cross country before. The other three did a tremendous job of teaching them."
Pennsbury was Henderson's nemesis all season. In the championship race of the Briarwood Classic at Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, the Warriors finished third behind Delaware's Tatnall School, which just finished fifth at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon, and Pennsbury.
"Our girls ran well and improved all season," said Lott. "We were 102 points behind Pennsbury at Briarwood, 76 behind them at districts and 38 back at states. We were labeled as consistent but we weren't conservative.
"It was a great experience running in the Ches Mont League this season. It always kept us in shape. Also, our assistant coaches Bob Rimkis and Mary Knisely were a big part of the reason for our success."
Lott competed in high school at Monsignor Bonner in Drexel Hill. He then went on to do his collegiate running for West Chester University. He also coaches indoor and outdoor track and field at Henderson and has kept the Warriors among the area's elite for close to two decades.
